Model United Nations (MUN) is an activity in which students role play delegates from UN member states and simulate UN committees where current issues are debated. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which are organised by many schools and universities.
Taking part in MUN is a multi-faceted learning experience for students. It calls upon students to hone their research skills; increases knowledge of international relations and global politics to a very high level and displays to them in detail how world bodies such as the UN work. Critical thinking skills and debating are also core to the MUN programme.
We in Blackrock ETSS took part part in last year’s MUN Conference 2022 entitled “Finding a progressive vision for a divided world". Our assigned country was The Peoples’ Republic of China and we learnt a lot in our role as Chinese delegation. This year, 2023, we have seen our interest in MUN grow, with two delegations representing Australia and Gabon. We are busy working n our committee interests and look forward to the conference in April 2023.
