Guidance In TY Includes:
Educational guidance is a vital aspect of the Transition Year programme. It helps students explore potential career paths and make informed decisions about their future. During TY, students are encouraged to reflect on their interests, strengths, and goals, which can guide their subject choices for the Senior Cycle and beyond.
Career Assessments:
Tools such as interest inventories and aptitude tests are used to identify students' aptitudes and preferences. These assessments provide insights into suitable career options and areas of study.
Work Experience:
Students participate in work placements, giving them firsthand exposure to various professions. Students are encouraged to participate in different types of work experiences to develop a range of skills. This practical experience helps them understand workplace dynamics and develop essential skills like communication and teamwork. Students are encouraged to apply for work experience early.
Workshops and Seminars: Blackrock ETSS organise guest speakers from different industries, career fairs, and workshops on topics like CV writing and interview preparation.
Research and Planning: Students are encouraged to research potential careers, educational pathways, and training opportunities. This includes exploring college courses, apprenticeships, and other post-secondary options.
Support: Students are supported and guided to develop their strengths and competencies to navigate their choices and to set realistic goals going forward into 5th year.
By engaging in these activities, TY students gain a clearer understanding of their future aspirations and the steps needed to achieve them. This educational guidance fosters confidence and equips them with the tools to make well-informed decisions about their education and career paths.
